About Urban Mi’gmaq Urbaine
The Urban Mi'gmaq Urbaine virtual platform is the result of a personal decolonization project. Writing small articles addressing Indigenous issues was the starting point for this project. This opportunity was completed after only one year and left me disappointed and irritated that I had to wait to be invited to a discussion table to offer an Indigenous perspective at people's convenience. I created this space to raise Indigenous voices across Canada to reflect Indigenous cultural differences and issues. I've learned in university that to colonize, one must dehumanize the other because it is impossible to enslave one's equal. By presenting the beauty, the diversity and different perspectives of Indigenous cultures, I aspire to live in a better world, breaking the stigma that surrounds us and decolonizing our minds.
